Mindful Living: A practice for stress reduction and well-being
This 8 week course is based on the MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction) program from the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It will inform and include practice in meditation, mindfulness, light stretching, and awareness of the body. Participants will develop a mindfulness practice that can be integrated into their daily lives.
The Facilitator Sharon Davison is an adult educator (B.Ed. Adult) and meditation practitioner. She creates and delivers training including stress reduction, awareness and transitioning through change, in a variety of contexts. Sharon recently successfully completed a professional training program under the direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zin and Dr. Saki Santorelli,past and present directors of the Centre for Mindfulness. In addition to facilitating courses and consulting, Sharon offers Purposeful, Integrative & Mindfulness-based Coaching to individuals and groups. Combing the practice of yoga and focused vocational development, Santosha Track provides participants with the opportunity to engage with their underlying beliefs and responses to
work and self discipline in an experiential rather than theoretical manner. By working through the body, clients are able to explore new ways of dealing with unproductive responses. Through the weekly practice of yoga participants will learn how to relax and find joy in the presence of a challenge. Yoga is how we practice and cultivate that skill. Building upon the yoga work, the vocational component of the program introduces participants to the idea of seeing their own potential, regardless of background and circumstances and addresses the participants' perceptions of both their abilities to achieve their goals, as well as the degree of control they exert over their current and future circumstances. Santosha Track engages participants and empowers them to envision and believe in their own potential.  Mindful & Creative Movement for Children offers students ages 5 -13 a unique opportunity to learn and explore their bodies and their relationship to their environment in a dynamic interactive and physically engaging fashion. This course presents a non-competitive,
expressive and exploratory approach to physical education where the main objective is to cultivate awareness, awareness of one's body, subjective states and the many ways in which the two connect and relate to their environment. Mindfulness practices are designed to enhance students' self awareness, focused attention, problem solving abilities, self-regulation, stress reduction and pro-social behaviors. Creative movement enables students to discover their own innate capacity for the communication of ideas, thoughts, and feelings through the medium of dance. |
